Earlier this week, the president of the National Youth Council, Marvin Edgar, expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment he says he received from ministry officials at the recently held youth awards. He told the STAR, that he was "shown blatant disregard and disrespect by staff members of the Ministry of Youth, especially when I brought to their attention my omission from the program."
Edgar also alleged that the ministry had withheld half of the NYC’s subvention for several months, while it increased that of the football association to $70, 000.But the president of the St Lucia Football Association has sought to set the record straight, in defense of his organization. Patrick Mathurin says the comments made by Edgar are completely erroneous.
"Last year the St Lucia Football Association received its annual subvention of $12,000 and the $70,000 was a grant given to the association to facilitate its participation in the World Cup Under 23 Olympic qualifiers which are currently on-going. "We did receive the $70,000 but it was not as a subvention and this is not unusual because other associations have received grant funding for major world events," said Mathurin. He said the association’s subvention has always been $12,000 and it has not increased.
