Dennery Basketball Invitational underway with ball-a-rama

The Dennery Basketball Invitational got underway Sunday with a ball-o-rama at the Dennery Multi-Purpose Sports Complex. The competition is sponsored in part by Digicel.There was exciting basketball action, however, rain did interrupt play. The competition started on time (1pm,) which is rare for just about any sporting event here. The teams taking part were: St Lucia Fire Services, Coca-Cola Magics, Vieux Fort All Stars, Micoud, Mon Repos, Garnd Riviere, Lady Sonics and the hosts Dennery Dolphins.

Windies name players for training camp

The West Indies selectors on Tuesday named 17 players including St Lucia’s Darren Sammy, to participate in a training camp, in preparation for the Digicel Home Series 2008 against Australia. The camp runs from May 12 to 17 in Antigua.The Digicel Home Series 2008 between West Indies and Australia will have three Test matches. The first takes place in Sabina Park, Jamaica, from May 22-26. Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua, May 30 to June 3 and Kensington Oval, Barbados, June 12-16.

South East Castries emerge victorious in playoff final

Invitational team South East Castries emerged champions of the 2008 Blackheart/Kashif and Shanghai playoff tournament finals, played Sunday afternoon at Mindoo Phillip Park.In the final, South East Castries registered a convincing 4-1 win over Vieux Fort North. The winning side got two goals from Arnold Palsade in the 6th and 77th minute with single markers going to Cletus "Zico" in the third minute and Decarious Simon in the 75th minute.

Babonneau’s Nature Valley Fun Walk bigger in ‘08

Over 300 participants turned out for the second Babonneau Fun Walk held on the May Day Holiday, for a challenging two-hour walk designed to promote healthy lifestyles.Among the walkers were the district’s Member of Parliament, Ezechiel Joseph, junior karatekas, athletes, sporting and other health and fitness enthusiasts of Babonneau and beyond.

In what has been a rather lackluster year for local football, thanks in part to the St Lucia Football Association (SLFA), Blackheart Productions has again come to the rescue by the staging the Sixth Annual Blackheart/Kashif and Shanghai football tournament, set to get underway May 18 at the Beausejour Cricket Ground (BCG). The theme this year is "Football, Sports for All."

The top athletes and schools at this year’s 2008 Inter-Schools Athletic Championship, were honored at a prize giving ceremony Wednesday morning at Financial Centre Board Room, Bank of St Lucia (BOSL).Prominent guests in attendance included, Assistant General Manager of BOSL, Joanna Charles; Youth and Sports Officers, Victor Reid and Patrick Mathurin.
