On April 24, 2008, when Virgin Atlantic’s flight VS 30 landed at Barbados’ Grantley Adams International airport, the airline would have carried four million passengers between London and the Caribbean. This achievement is especially significant for the airline as it comes during the company’s celebration of their 10th anniversary of operations in the Caribbean.
Virgin Atlantic started their Caribbean operation on September 27th 1998 with inaugural flights into Barbados and St Lucia followed by Antigua. The Caribbean operation has experienced rapid expansion and with the addition of Grenada, Tobago, Cuba and Jamaica, has gone from the original seven flights a week to operating 22 flights a week into the Caribbean.
The airline started their celebrations with a 10th anniversary online competition, where passengers purchasing tickets on their Caribbean internet site will be eligible to win one of 100 free flights to London on Virgin Atlantic. Ten flights will be given each month until December. The airline has always placed great value on customer service and its success so far in the Caribbean has been due primarily to their commitment to setting new standards of service and a reputation for innovation.
