Jules murder: Police depending on forensic evidence
Friday, June 29, 2007 (4145 reads)

Thurs-Front-28-06-07.pngPolice Superintendent Peter Davis spent most of Monday combing the Grande Riviere home of Marcia Philbert-Jules, who had been discovered in a pool of blood that morning. Jules was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries. The murder has shocked the small community of Piat. Sad and angry neighbors crowded the area Monday morning, each asking each other if they had heard anything unusual. It was also reported that Jules’ Honda Civic was stolen.

Tue-Front-26-06-07.jpgFor a great many St Lucians the name Marcia Jules would ring a bell. She had been the PS in the Ministry of Health when Sarah Flood-Beaubrun was the minister in charge. More recently she was the PS in the Ministry of Physical Planning operated by Dr Keith Mondesir.

Sat-Front-23-06-07.jpgAlmost one week following his controversial arrest on suspicion he defrauded the Customs and Excise department Richard Frederick continues to make waves. At least three business people have threatened him with legal action following statements he made while being interviewed by HotFM’s Sam ‘Juk Bois’ Flood.

Thursday-Front-21-06-07.jpgObviously we’re living in the worst of times: in the United States—the so-called bastion, if not cradle, of democracy—some 300 million people are ruled by a man imposed on them by a court and of whom only 26 percent currently approve.

tue-front-19-06-07.jpgAfter the highly publicized recent fracas involving government ministers and the police, two centered on mere traffic violations, you might’ve expected the most recent episode to feature at least a whiff of déjà vu. Au contraire.

Can Brits rescue local police force?
Monday, June 18, 2007 (2309 reads)

Weekend-Front-16-06-07.jpgTo judge by reports official and otherwise, it seems the Royal St Lucia Police Force was born dysfunctional. No need to recount the numbing symptoms. Over the last 30 years or so I’ve cited several official inquiries—including one by the Trinidadian oracle Karl Hudson-Phillips—as proof that where the force is concerned change has always been for the worse.

SO COMPTON QUITS . . . now what?
Friday, June 15, 2007 (4055 reads)

Thursday-Front-14-06-07.jpgFor many St Lucians, what was most remarkable about our 83-year-old prime minister’s first budget address since taking office last December was that he had managed to stay on his feet for the full four hours of its delivery. Indeed, not a few still hold on to the view that the Herculean effort had contributed more to Sir John’s current state of health than had his widely reported contretemps with his Cabinet colleagues over St Lucia’s relationship with China.

Bousquet-Mondesir: Political undesirables or just plain victims!
Monday, June 11, 2007 (2957 reads)

Weekend-Front-9-6-07.pngWhy was Rufus Bousquet fired from the Cabinet of Ministers? That is a question that the former foreign affairs minister says he has been asking himself. Bousquet, who took up the post as Minister for External Affairs in January, has said little about his dismissal. There has been much speculation over why exactly Bousquet was sacked. All that is known is that Sir John Compton, who has been ill for nearly a month, rose from his sick-bed to do just that.

What’s really going on between Mondesir and the police? Will cops sue over ‘damaging report?’

tue-front-05-06-07.jpgDuring his very first budget address in February, Home Affairs Minister Keith Mondesir issued a chilling warning that the media should’ve taken seriously. He said he would be taking to the House new laws relating to a press more to his liking.

Has Mondesir sacked top cops? Minister cites bombshell police report

Weekend-Front-2-6-07.gifLong before his election to public office last December, Keith Mondesir was making headlines, for the most part of an unsavory nature. There was the alleged Sunday morning battering of  Theresa Crafton at Rodney Bay on May 14, 2000—in respect of which Mondesir was convicted and fined $500 in a Gros Islet court on April 15, 2002.

Montoute says time leadership matter put to rest! Will King take new oath this weekend?
Friday, June 01, 2007 (3793 reads)

Thursday-Front-31-07-07.jpgSir John Compton’s continued absence from the prime minister’s office continues to make waves at home and abroad. For a start, news of his mystery illness officially reached St Lucia almost two weeks after Sir John’s visit to New York, ostensibly for his regular annual check-up. And even then what was revealed later proved misleading, to say the least.
