Almond Resort workers dispute
Kenny to the rescue!

mon-front-&-back2.jpgThe protracted quarrel between the St Lucia Seamen Waterfront and General Workers’ Trade Union and Almond Morgan Bay Resort has been “partially resolved.” A Friday afternoon release from the union states that their disagreement with the Almond Morgan Bay hotel had been addressed following the intervention of Prime Minister Kenny Anthony. Said the letter signed by union president Alexis Alcide: “Following a late meeting with the prime minister the hotel has agreed to formally recognize the Seamen Waterfront and General Workers Trade union as the bargaining agent on behalf of the employees of Almond Morgan Bay Resort.”

At my office, anyway. And judging by the reaction of callers to RCI’s NewsSpin, we were not the only shocked recipients of the latest chapter in the Vaughan Lewis saga. After learning that Kenny Anthony’s Labour Party had decided overnight to dump former whiz-kid Victor LaCorbiniere as the party’s candidate for Central Castries in favor of perennial loser Lewis, all that remained was the predictable call from the party chairman. By now, of course, everyone knows the particular individual holds no surprises. After that nonsense about cancer cures in his back yard, well!
