In light of International Women’s Rights Day, my English teacher had us read an article about a courageous Afghan woman on March 8. After reading it, I had so many emotions reeling through my body it was unbelievable.

Children are often told to be “seen and not heard”. Sometimes, little kids are expected to “speak only when spoken to”, and it must be hard to break that habit. However, as we get older, it becomes more and more important to be opinionated. We, as young adults, are learning how to survive in the grown-up-world, and therefore must get our points across, but also must respectfully listen when other people try to do the same.
